# Single A-Frame Bridge

Part of the Pioneering Merit Badge Digital Resource Guide: [Introduction & Overview](https://merit-badge.university/merit-badges/pioneering/guide/index.md)

*9. Full-Size Projects*

> **9.** Working in a group, (or individually with the help of your counselor) build a full size pioneering structure, using one of the following designs in the Pioneering merit badge pamphlet:Carefully plan the project, assembling and organizing all the materials, referring to the points under Safe Pioneering, and complying with the height restrictions in the Guide to Safe Scouting. **Single A-Frame Bridge**

The Single A-Frame Bridge keeps the bridge idea but simplifies the support system compared with the double A-frame monkey bridge. That makes it a solid choice for a team that wants a major structure without the extra complexity of a larger bridge setup.

### What you learn here

- How A-frame supports spread force into the ground
- How straight alignment affects the feel of the crossing
- How careful anchoring turns a narrow design into a stable one

> **Be Prepared! Your bridge support leans during setup**
>
> - **Stop the raise immediately.**
> - **Check that both frame legs are even and on stable ground.**
> - **Inspect the lashings and braces before trying again.**
> - **Reset with better spacing instead of forcing it upright.**

> **Tip**
>
> Choose this option if your team wants to study bridge structure but is not ready for the largest or most complex bridge in the list.
