Requirement 9 invites you to put wildland fire management into action through a practical project, interview, home assessment, or prevention campaign. You must complete exactly ONE of the following options.
Option Summaries
- Req 9a — Fire Readiness Plan: Map a local wildland area and develop a complete fire readiness plan detailing water supplies, fuel loads, evacuation routes, and suppression tactics.
- Req 9b — Forestry Official Interview: Interview a local fire warden, state forester, or USFS official to discuss local fire seasons and suppression responsibility.
- Req 9c — Firewise Home Assessment & Risk Project: Conduct a formal Firewise assessment of a home or camp building in the WUI and complete an approved risk-reduction project.
- Req 9d — Community Fire Prevention Message: Meet with a Fire Prevention Specialist and create a skit, video, or billboard campaign to present to your troop.
- Req 9e — Fire Weather & Red Flag Warning Study: Meet with a meteorologist to learn about fire weather, relative humidity thresholds, and Red Flag Warnings.

- Req 9d (Creative Prevention Campaign): Best if you enjoy drama, video production, or graphic design. What you’ll gain: Public communications and presentation skills.
- Req 9e (Meteorology Focus): Best if you are interested in weather systems, humidity tracking, and atmospheric science. What you’ll gain: Deep understanding of weather influences on fire.
