Interview Preparation Guide

Prepare questions prior to meeting with your local fire warden or forester:

1. Responsible Agencies: What local, state, or federal agency (e.g., State Forest Service, US Forest Service, BLM, or local volunteer fire department) handles primary wildland suppression in your area?
2. Local Fire Seasons: Which months represent peak fire season in your region, and how do seasonal weather patterns (Santa Ana winds, summer droughts, spring snowmelt) affect risk?
3. Common Fire Causes: What are the most frequent causes of wildfires in your specific county (debris burning, campfires, lightning, powerlines)?
4. Local Prevention Efforts: How does the agency conduct public education and fuel reduction programs locally?

After the interview, summarize your findings to share with your counselor.
